Developing an Open Space Master Plan for Allston Brighton

Since late 2005, the Allston Brighton Green Space Advocates (ABGSA) have been working on a neighborhood open space master planning process. ABGSA are a group of local residents whose mission is to support and preserve local green space as an essential part of a healthy community and to offer support, education assistance, community visibility, and empowerment through a unified voice to all local green space organizations.

The Allston Brighton Green Space Advocates’ end goals for the Open Space Master Plan are as follows:

  1. Catalogue and link neighborhood open spaces and groups that are active around them
  2. Educate the general public on Allston Brighton open space groups and activities
  3. Identify clear plans of action for each neighborhood open space and for the neighborhood as a whole
  4. Designate target areas for new open space initiatives, such as streetscape improvement or neighborhood blue spaces
  5. Serve as an advocacy tool that can be used to receive more funding for open space groups
  6. Connect neighborhood green space groups to different city, state, and federal agencies that work on open space initiatives

We expect to have design guidelines ready for the Allston Brighton Green Space Advocates' Green Gathering in February 2008.

The Allston Brighton Streetscape Greening Guidelines Project is supported by funding from the MA Dept. of Housing and Community Development.
